A Taste of The Keys

Old Key West resort was the first Disney Vacation Club Property. The resort has a very laid-back feel decorated with soft pastel colors and is reminiscent of the Florida Keys. You can admire the swaying palm trees or the stillness of the water on the canals from your patio or balcony. You may even catch a round or two of golf as the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course winds around the resort.

Being a DVC property, the resort rooms are a little different and set the standard for the four different room categories: Studio, One-bedroom, Two-bedroom and Three-bedroom Villas. The one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas have all the comforts of home including a complete kitchen and a washer/dryer. The studio’s have a mini fridge, microwave and coffee pot. These are some of the largest rooms on property and have ample room to spread out. Future DVC resorts would keep to the same basic room layout but were smaller in size.

Let’s eat! There are a few places to grab a bite at the resort. The quick service, Good’s Food to Go, is located opposite the main pool with limited outdoor seating. The full-service restaurant, Oliva’s, is located across from the lobby, or Hospitality House, and offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

Turtle Shack Poolside Snacks is located by one of the quiet pools and offers quick bites, sweets and libations during the day. The Gurgling Suitcase (I really like that name) is located next to Good's Food to Go quick service. Along with drinks you can order items from Oliva’s full menu.

Need to expend some energy? There are four pools; the Sandcastle Pool is the main pool with a slide, sauna and whirlpool spa. The three quiet pools are located throughout the resort and also have whirlpool spas. Other offerings include jogging, tennis, playgrounds, campfires, and surrey bike rentals to name a few.

Once you have satisfied your appetite and enjoyed the recreation it’s time to hit the parks! Transportation to all parks is by bus with several stops at the resort so you don't have to walk to the main entrance to grab a bus. If you are going to Disney Springs there is a ferry (water taxi) that operates from 10am to 11pm.

Old Key West is a very relaxing resort, there is something about the warm pastel colors of the buildings, the numerous palm trees, and the quietness that makes you want to pull up a chair and sit a spell. Guests do not have to be Vacation Club members to stay at this resort so next time you’re looking for that quiet spot to sit and relax, contact me!
